#1--Hide The Time Machine--Love Beyond time, page 4
part #1 of Love Beyond time Series
Confused and completely disoriented Brandon didn’t give up. He kept pushing. However, his work became limited when the first case of the illness was discovered in the UK. Following the isolation of the patient and staff in the hospital affected, the UK Government declared a total lockdown. They summoned him and his father who assured the Government that they would do their best.
Brandon’s parents had to call their children to all move into the family house because they needed to be together in such a trying time.
“You need to stop trying, son.”
“Dad…..”
“This infection is no joke….”
“This isn’t the first pandemic to hit the world.”
“True. But this is the first pandemic that has beaten all the scientists and medical professionals all over the world.”
“There must be a solution dad, if not a cure, then a vaccine.”
“How many attempts have you made son?”
Brandon was quiet.
He lost count the day his personal assistant told him he had attempted his 100th trial.
“You told me a Demarco never gives up….Great Grandfather Patrick….”
“Your Great Grandfather knew when to stop Brandon. Don’t you get it? ….this is way beyond humanity. Have you seen the news? Have you seen anything or heard anything like this? Ever?”
“All I am saying is……”
“If you want to help humanity, there has to be another way Brandon. The more I watch the news, the more I worry about your exposure to the organism.”
“Dad….., we have protective gear at the lab.”
“Accidents happen son….We have just one case here now. And we are still unsure of how many people have been infected. If you get exposed, you are not just putting your life at risk, but that of the country as a whole.”
He looked at his father and knew he was telling the truth.
“So, we are just going to give up?”
“I didn’t say that.”
“So, what are you saying dad?”
“I am saying let it go…..Be safe.”
Brandon swallowed hard and nodded. He stepped out of his father’s office and frowned slightly.
“Your father is right Brandon.”
He looked up and saw his mother standing few meters away from the door of the office.
“Mum….”
“I know you are a fighter, but this isn’t your fight anymore. Come here.”
His mother pulled him into a hug and kissed him on his forehead.
“Okay mum.”
He went up the stairs of his parents ten bedroom exquisite apartment. He grew up in this house and he was actually glad he was here in this trying time, he thought to himself.
He stopped by Priscilla’s room and heard voices. The door wasn’t locked so he pressed the handles and stepped in. He saw Jennifer sitting on the mustard-colored couch situated at a corner in the room eating a bowl of grapes, and Priscilla was sitting on the bed going through a catalog.
“Hey bro.” Priscilla said
“You don’t look good.” Jennifer said.
“Dad said I should stop trying to find a solution to all this.”
“He has a point though. This disease is like a demon. I have worked in hospitals for a long time. I have seen many illnesses. But I have never seen something like this. What if you get exposed to the disease?”
“That was his point too.”
“I’m sorry Brandon…I know how much this means to you.” Priscilla said putting the catalog away.
“It’s okay, at least I get to spend time with my sisters.” he said beaming.
“That’s better than wasting time with women right? Jennifer said
He rolled his eyes at her.
“Is your boyfriend affected by the disease already? He asked giving her a clap back.
“He has a name… and no, why would you even think of that?”
“I was just asking.” he said shrugging his shoulders.
Priscilla laughed giving her brother a look that said “Really?”
“Huh… before the lockdown he traveled down to Belgium, and he is currently fine” Jennifer said eyeing him.
“That reminds me. Who told dad about Bella?”
“Who is Bella?” Jennifer asked.
“The Russian model” Priscilla responded.
“The Russian Model??” he gave her a look that said “no one was meant to know about this.”
“What??.... Jennifer is my sister and I wasn’t reporting you or anything. I was just telling her all about the recent happenings in my life, and of course I had to talk about how I had to look for another model. She asked why and I told her. That was all” Priscilla said
“Why wouldn’t you even want me to know?” Jennifer said.
“Just forget it” he said looking at both of them.
“I think you should ask mum though because when Priscilla was talking about it, she walked in. Maybe she must have heard.”
“Whatever…..Dad started asking me about a woman in my life and how I need to settle down soon, and he mentioned Bella.”
“But he is right though.” Jennifer said.
“Have you ever been on my side since you became my sister,” he asked with a serious face.
Priscilla and Jennifer laughed and he joined in.
“Come on bro. It’s not that serious. You know I love you.”
“Yeah…..”
“I think the person that needs that advice is Priscilla,” he added.
“Me ….how?”
“Because apart from David three years ago, I haven’t seen you with any man. Oh mark too and you broke up with him after only two weeks.”
“That’s because I am a busy woman who doesn’t have time for men.”
“So, you mean you haven’t seen any man that loves you and you love him back?”
“Love….all I want now is to make money.”
“You already have money, what money are you still making?”
Jennifer quietly watched them talk but didn’t say anything initially.
“I think you should let her take her time Brandon…love will find its way eventually” she finally spoke.
She said this because he knew how Priscilla’s past relationship ended, and she was sure her sister was still healing from the heartbreak and deception of David. Also, she never really liked Mark.
“Oh…she can take her time…by I can’t.” He said smiling.
They all laughed again this time around.
“How is Ryan though? Priscilla asked.
He raised his brow “he is doing fine. We spoke this morning. Dude is frustrated he can’t wait for all this to be over.”
“hmmm…I have actually missed him” Jennifer said smiling.
“He is a great person…..much more responsible than I am actually, “ he said, watching Priscilla.
They continued their chit-chat for hours, and slowly the anger that came over Brandon because he had to stop finding answers to the pandemic started easing off.
However, the relief didn’t last for long as new cases were detected in the UK. Hospitals were getting more overwhelmed and no matter how much the Government pushed they became more powerless as the day went by. Initially, the lockdown was limited, but it became more intense as no one wanted to die.
Months into the pandemic, it became apparent that death was inevitable when scientists announced that “if there is no solution to this illness, the whole of humanity will be wiped out in two years or less”. There was obviously no hope based on that statement, people began to spend quality time with their families as fear overtook society.
Brandon noticed that his father was deep in thought more often than usual and he attributed it to the pandemic until he was called one day into his father’s office.
“Humanity is dying.”
“We are not dying, we are dead already Dad. Elricho ignatia came out to say there was no hope that’s one of the most outstanding scientists of our time. Also, Demarco lab couldn’t do anything.
“I fear this was what Your great grandfather was talking about?’”
“What do you mean?”
“We have to act fast son.”
The End
What exactly did Patrick Demarco say?
Is there hope for Humanity at this stage?
Will Brandon and his family survive the pandemic?
Find out in the next book as you will be led into an adventure full of suspense, intense emotions, and euphoria.
